Victoria Avenue ForeverVictoria Avenue in bloom Planting Calendar

People PlantingVictoria Avenue Forever’s Planting Dates are great opportunities to get involved in helping keep Victoria Avenue looking its best. The City of Riverside does day-to-day maintenance on the Avenue, however, there are a number of tasks that do not fall into the normal definition of “maintenance.” This is where VAF steps in and gets involved. Come join us for one of our planting dates. We have master gardeners on hand who will teach you a number of valuable skills, such as selecting and planting rose cuttings, proper pruning techniques, and correct tree planting methods. Victoria Avenue Forever organizes a planting date every month of the year except the months of July and August. We establish where on the Avenue we will work and what we will do based upon priority needs and the time of year. Winter and spring are great times to plant rose cuttings, and we will usually have two dates set aside for this. Fall and spring are good for planting trees and we have already planted hundreds of trees where existing ones have died or in areas where no plantings exist. We also do weeding, pruning, Person ready to start plantingmulch spreading, and other maintenance and improvement tasks. Work sessions are organized for no more than two to three hours in the coolness of the morning. Volunteers are supplied with water, coffee, donuts and other treats. We ask that volunteers bring their own gloves and shovels, but VAF has a limited number of gloves and The Master himself overseeing a plantingtools it can loan to anyone without their own equipment. To find out when and where our next planting date is, just click on the highlighted box in the calendar above. Come join us! We’d love to get to know you!
